Menopause
Prof. Dr. Yavuz Aydın

Menopause is the period when women's ovaries cease to function. Menopause usually occurs between the ages of 45-55. The symptoms of menopause can include hot flashes, fatigue, insomnia, sexual reluctance, concentration disorder, depression, vaginal dryness and urinary tract infections.

Hormone therapy (HT) is the most commonly used treatment for menopause. Hormone therapy is used to correct the hormone imbalance in women's bodies. By replacing estrogen and progesterone hormones, symptoms such as hot flashes, fatigue, insomnia, sexual reluctance, concentration disorder, depression, vaginal dryness and urinary tract infections can be reduced.

However, since hormone therapy is associated with risks of cancer, heart disease, thromboembolism, etc., it should be individually evaluated and performed under specialist control. Alternatively, it may be possible to reduce menopausal symptoms by means of vaginal gymnastics, yoga, meditation, diet, and exercise.
